WHAT ARE VALUES?

Values are the principles, beliefs, and standards that guide your actions and decisions in life. They represent what’s most important to you, acting as a compass that shapes your priorities and behaviors. Your values can influence everything from your relationships to your career choices and how you spend your time.

HOW TO DEFINE YOUR VALUES:

Below is a sampling of questions in the workbook. Make sure to download the workbook for the entire list.

  1. Reflect on What Matters Most

    - What makes me feel fulfilled or proud?

    - What frustrates or disappoints me deeply? (Sometimes values are revealed through their absence.)

    - What do I want to stand for in life?

  2. Identify Key Themes
Think about moments when you felt truly happy, satisfied, or purposeful. Write down why those moments mattered to you. Look for patterns, like the importance of connection, freedom, integrity, or creativity.

  3. Use Value Lists for Inspiration
Browse a list of common values (e.g., family, growth, honesty, adventure, faith, health). Circle the ones that resonate and narrow it down to 5–10 that feel most authentic to you.

  4. Prioritize Your Values
Rank them in order of importance. This helps you identify what truly drives your decisions when you face conflicting priorities.

  5. Test Your Values
Consider how these values show up in your daily life:

    • Are they consistent with how you spend your time and energy?

    • Do they align with your goals and relationships?

  6. Revisit and Refine
Values can shift over time as you grow or experience new life stages. Periodically reflect on whether your values still resonate with who you are becoming.
